Hi friends! Today I wanted to share with you how I read the Bible for those of you interested.
When I was younger I used to think very highly of those who read their Bibles everyday…I used to read the book of Proverbs, I read it so many months over time, I kinda wish I had kept a log of the days I read it now. The book of Proverbs has 31 chapters, it is a book of Wisdom, written by King Solomon. I am not a theological scholar or anything like that, just a follower of Jesus and His Teachings and I grew up in a Christian Family who loves the Lord and whose lives were changed by the Good News of the Gospel. But enough about that.
So back to the point of this blog post, I recently have been reading it more “devotedly” in my opinion, Lord knows I try to do it every day, and I am much better at that now days than I was back a long time ago. These days I depend on it, honestly. You may ask how is that? That you depend on it. Well, it literally is a part of my life and of my daily routine now. I believe that if you haven’t yet had a personal encounter with Jesus of Nazareth of the Bible, you probably won’t be able to understand or “see” what He says in His Word.
The Bible is HIStory of How He Loves Us. It was written by prophets and apostles. Men chosen by God to write His Words for all humanity but specially for those who believe in His gift.
If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
I no longer see it as a chore, or something I “have to do” I read it like if it were a well of spring water! And it is. I find it is the only thing that fills my spirit up.
Last year I was encouraged to read the book of Mark in the month of December 24th for it has 24 chapters. Ending the reading on the 24th of December if you begin reading it the 1st of December. I guess you could do that anytime too, if you’d like to.
But that has changed me.
So begin reading it with the Book of John. To learn more about the story of Jesus and hear the testimonies of the ones who spent time with Jesus. You can read the book of Psalms too! I love the prayers and songs written there… Proverbs like I said before is a great place to obtain some wisdom for everyday life. Written by the wisest man to live on the face of the Earth, King Solomon. So no matter what book you begin with, hopefully the Gospel of John, read a chapter a day every day. Meditate on it, meaning toss and turn it over in your thought, or better said think about what you read all day long. Bible reading is essential for the human soul, and so is prayer. Pray (talk with God) anywhere at any time of day. About what you may ask, talk to him like you would a friend. Tell Him you need Him and your want to get to know Him better ask Him to show Himself to You and He will. Have eyes open to Him and His working hand in your life. You will be changed trust Him. Also keep a journal of what you learn in what your read of the Bible. Write what the Lord tells you. Also which version to read? I use ESV or NKJV.
Lamentations 3:25-26
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.
26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly
For the salvation of the Lord.”
Don’t forget that promise. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.
I hope this is helpful in your search for truth. In your search for God. I hope you do find Him for He is there open arms ready for you to come to Him.
With much Love, Sara.
